Cleanse, tone and moisturise. That’s what us women have been doing for years. But what about men? Don’t they deserve a little luxury? Skin is skin right?
I found a packet of face wipes in Boots the other day – for men. They are the same as any packet of face wipes. But the word “men” on the front made it ok for men to buy them. I bought a packet for my boyfriend as he always uses mine. As I went to pay for them, I cringed a little inside before realising they were cheaper than the normal ones, so I chucked in another packet – for myself. My boyfriend ended up using mine again anyway as they apparently smell nicer. Fair enough.
The same goes for Just For Men hair dye. Did you know that there are exactly the same chemicals as women’s hair dye would you believe? It’s shocking isn’t it! (sarcasm in my voice as I write)
Lip balm, moisturiser, face wash, body wash, guy-liner, the list is endless to the amount of products that men feel are too ladylike to buy themselves.
I think what I’m trying to say is, men should look after themselves and their skin just as much as women do, but society tells them they aren’t allowed as it’s not a manly thing. So the products with the work “MEN” on them make it ok to use. What a fascinating world we live in.
But have you noticed it’s the same the other way round too? You can buy a toolbox for women. IF IT’S PINK! This is disgraceful! My favourite colour is green!
I remember then I was at school and wearing trousers was suddenly allowed and all the girls started to wear them to feel cool and trendy. But a boy came in wearing a skirt once and was sent home. It’s all very strange to me. Maybe I’m missing something.
By the way, this isn’t me, as a female starting some campaign or protest about men and women’s equal rights. This is me merely observing packets of face wipes with the word men on the front and how men feel emasculated buying them without that word.
I’m sure there are men who are reading this now who agree with me and think it’s all a load of nonsense. Only the the world of Alice in Wonderland would come up with such drivel. But unfortunately, society here in the real word pigeon holes and labels these things, as we all know too well.
But we are in 2016 now aren’t we? Men are wearing pink to make the girls wink, women are going back to work after popping out a baby. Women can be firefighters and comedians. Men can be cake makers and ballet dancers. It really shouldn’t matter whose hands are whisking in vanilla essence into the icing sugar as long as it tastes nice. We are getting there slowly but surely.
And personally, I think Russell Brand looks great with eyeliner on!
