Kady Potter

Two of our favourite leading ladies from the US have announced pilots for future broadcast on NBC. Both are from the cast of Parks & Rec: Amy Poehler and Rashida Jones. They’ll also each take up the ‘executive producer’ role for their shows.

Amy’s comedy has yet to be given a name. (Feel free to send us guesses. ‘King of the Hill’ is taken.) The lead character is a guy who needs to regain the respect of his family after years of partying. He’ll have to fight his brother for the title of ‘head of the family’. No word on whether any aunts or sisters are going to get involved…

Rashida, on the other hand, is at the helm of a sitcom called Good Fortune. This one is about a woman, and what happens to her when she starts taking a fortune teller seriously. I think we all remember that one time Kady got conned on the Southbank, right? If she’d accepted that advice at face value, she’d be arthritic and estranged from her parents. Sometimes you’ve got to take things with a pinch of salt.

Interestingly, NBC is also rumoured to have asked Tina Fey for another show pilot. It’s set to be based on Tracey Wigfield, a writer on The Mindy Project. We’ve been warned to expect plenty of mother-daughter tension.

Whenever there’s a new show – especially a comedy – that’s inspired by someone’s life, we can’t help but wonder how precious they are about the plot. We’d be reluctant to pack in the laughs at our own expense. And what if you reconstruct an actual event and your friends point out that’s not how it happened?

Shows which start out on NBC usually make their way over to the UK on at least one channel. Sadly we have no idea when! Keep your fingers crossed for more news. We’re looking forward to seeing more of these upcoming sitcoms, and everything else that women in comedy get up to during 2016.
