Katherine Ryan: Glam Role Model

Last night 2008 Funny Women Awards winner Katherine Ryan was at the Komedia, one of our favourite haunts in Brighton, performing her new stand up show 'Glam Role Model'.

The Canadian comedian has a knack for discussing serious and important subjects through the medium of celebrity. She tackles the UK's class system and our adherence to it using the example of our treatment of the singer Tulisa, who Katherine had a run in with on a panel show and current American Sweetheart Jennifer Lawrence

Katherine talks a lot about her English flatmate – her five year old daughter – and their relationship in a single parent family. Katherine is particularly concerned right now for teenagers, they are her heroes for growing up surrounded by social media and 'publishing' all their thoughts from a young age, no doubt to be haunted by their teenage selves later on in life.

There is also a challenge for heart throb and One Directioner Harry Styles if he really wants to prove his masculinity and 'pull a cougar'. Katherine does not particularly like the term cougar and we are definitely in agreement that you do not reach cougarhood aged 31.

This is a great show where no topic is too close to the bone to discuss, a must see.
