Mackenzie Watson was inspired by the TV Show 'Girls' and Lena Dunham to make her own parody of the hit show. Here she shares the one-woman film and her process with us!

I am a fan of the show 'Girls' and I think Lena Dunham is brilliant. I am also aware however of how insufferable the characters can be at times. This is ripe material for parody. The show, for better or worse, prompts a lot of discussion and since the new season started not too long ago, I thought it was a great time to pounce on something people would be talking about a lot.

At the time I was in the early stages of the video, there was a controversial story circulating about the show as well – a press conference gone a bit sour. An interviewer had made some comments about Dunham's character's nudity on the show which caused a bit of an uproar with producer Judd Apatow and those at the press conference. In essence, Apatow and some of the show's other producers were suggesting that the only reason Dunham's nudity on the show gets so much attention is due to the fact that she does not have a typical Hollywood body. This is not the suggestion of one interviewer but many in the media since the show started. Understandably, this causes a bit of uproar with fans of the show.

I couldn't help but bring these politics into my video. Without revealing entirely my stance on the issue, I wanted to play around with the debate in my parody. Is the stir about her nudity merely because of her body type? Is she deliberately writing in nudity for her character to launch a larger critique on the industry's beauty standards? Is she breaking ground for women in TV/film with unconventional Hollywood bodies?

Or are we just reading waaaay too far into all of this?

I'll leave that for you to decide. Or ignore. Whichever. After all this is about me and my impressions right? Right you guys? Uh oh looks like Hannah's rubbed off on me a bit…

I hope you enjoy my one-woman 'Girls' parody!
