Here at Funny Women, we’re always delighted to hear of all kinds of events that support and promote women and gender equality. Many of you may have heard of One Billion Rising, the worldwide movement that takes place on V-Day as a call for justice, equality and an end to violence. Although V-Day itself isn’t until February, plenty of events are taking place to commemorate and promote this global celebration.

The Southbank Centre is teaming up with the V-Day Campaign to present a very special evening: Jude Kelly, Artistic Director of the Southbank Centre, will be hosting a panel event. Titled ‘The State of Female Justice in the UK’, the panel will feature V-Day founder and playwright Eve Ensler; poet and former prisoner Sophie Barton-Hawkins; Labour MP Stella Creasy; Marissa Begonia, the co-ordinator for Justice for Domestic Workers; Helena Kennedy, Baroness and Labour member of the House of Lords; actress Thandie Newton and Rahela Siddiqui of Women for Refugee Women. The panel will explore the reasons behind women experiencing racial, economic, cultural and environmental violence and will question what the future of justice in the UK for women might look like.

The State of Female Justice in the UK discussion takes place on Wednesday 8th January at the Southbank Centre, London SE1 8XX, at 7:30pm.
The event is free – for details of how to RSVP click here. You can also watch the event via livestream here.
