How do you make a long journey in the car from London to Manchester seem like a walk in the park? Well, it might be hard to arrange but my suggestion is make sure comedy duo Twisted Loaf join you in the car. They will insist on frequent 'comfort breaks' so nobody suffers a full bladder for long and crisps and Percy Pigs stay at a reassuring level in the car.
We were in the car not just to run a Funny Women Taster Workshop but for a Funny Women Showcase, headlined by this year's Funny Women Awards winners Twisted Loaf at The Lowry in Salford Quays.
But Twisted Loaf weren't the only Award winning performers at our Manchester Showcase. We were also joined by Alex Maher who won our first Best Show Award with 'Hope and Gloria', Funny Women Awards runner up Katie Lane and finalist Dotty Winters.
After a great evening spent giving Manchester and Salford a taste of how our Stand up to Stand out workshop can benefit people in both their work life and in their ambitions to get on stage Alex Maher kicked off the night.
In an excerpt from 'Hope and Gloria' Dr Hope got the men of Salford's knickers in a twist, regaled us with stories of her life with her mother Gloria and wowed us with her I N T U I T I O N qualifications.
Dotty Winters shared the story of her son's special knees and somehow managed to make the whole adoption process in this country funny. It was a return to her roots for Katie Lane who moved to the north as a little girl, causing a ruckus with her posh accent and her mother's fondness for serving garlic bread to a certain little northern boy who became a big comedian.
Twisted Loaf united the south with the north with their jolly tribute to Made in Chelsea and bonus make over. Office workers might have recognised themselves in a sketch that involved a lot of frantic paper shuffling. Our founder Lynne is convinced Twisted Loaf are the next French and Saunders, they are certainly the only other female sketch act on the scene that I know of to make such liberal use of blood capsules on stage. Intrigued? The pair have lots of live shows lined up with us so watch this space!
If you missed the workshop at The Lowry don't worry! We have a workshop this Saturday 2 November at Leicester Square Theatre. For details click HERE!
