At Funny Women Towers, we’re big supporters of female comedy – but we also believe that all women should feel safe, confident and free from the threat of fear and violence. As well as showcasing as many brilliant female comics as we can, we also run workshops and events to use comedy to build women’s confidence in all aspects of their lives and careers, and support a range of brilliant charities and organisations through our Awards and year-round work.

This year, we’re supporting domestic violence charity Refuge through the Funny Women Awards, and we keep the task of supporting women’s rights at the heart of what we do as an organisation. Million Women Rise is a movement dedicated to ending the threat of violence against women, and their annual march is just around the corner.

The Million Women Rise is Europe's biggest women’s march against male violence, and it’s taking place on Saturday 9th March this year.  The movement is comprised of thousands of female volunteers worldwide, who seek to end violence against women in all it's forms. This year the whole of Oxford Street will be closed to traffic from 12pm to allow the march to take place.

In the UK today …

•One woman in four will experience domestic violence at some point in her life.
•Two women are murdered every week by their partner or ex-partner.
•One incident of domestic violence is reported to the police every minute.
•One woman in four will experience sexual assault as an adult.
•Nearly 90% of local authorities do not have a rape crisis centre.

The work of Million Women Rise doesn’t end with the march – the organisation has recently opened a building in North London to offer support services, holistic treatments, campaigning and social space that is free for all women to use.

Million Women Rise is based in London but have regional actions and activities throughout Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and England. The organisation is run without any corporate sponsorship or formal funding and depends on volunteers for all their activities. If you would like to volunteer at The MWR Project you can check out their Get Involved page.

The Million Women Rise March is taking place on Saturday 9th March.
