Fresh from a sold out Funny Women Awards Final just over two weeks ago, we were once again packing out the downstairs Lounge at the Leicester Square Theatre for our London showcase on Saturday night.
The electric atmosphere was ideal for showcasing just some of the great talent we’ve witnessed this year, with a line-up of great acts we’d seen come through the Funny Women Awards. Who knows – maybe we’ll see some of them in the final next year? We entrusted them all into the capable hands of host Lindsay Sharman, herself a Funny Women Awards finalist in 2010, who brought her affable, well spoken charm to a rowdy Saturday night crowd.
Lucy Frederick, Awards finalist, was nearly as well-spoken and 'posh' as our host and tried out some new material on a game crowd. Then it was the turn of rooky comic, Nicola Morgan, who started well with dark jokes about motherhood and delivered a confident set despite her lack of experience. Aussie comic Jennifer Carnovale, fresh from a successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe, had perfect timing and confident, deadpan delivery. Sindhu V brought her naturally conversational style to the stage and quickly built an easy rapport with her audience.
We were treated to two fantastic character acts. The unstoppable 'Dolly Slateman', aka Debbie Garry, complete with neon suit and leopard print everything else, had the audience on their feet learning to rave dance.
Headliner Gabby Best, fresh from her win at the Funny Women Awards, invited us to Chelsea Health and Fitness Club under the guidance of 'Marijana'. There she introduced us to some of her 'top notch' members in an extended set that saw our favourite Croatian exercise guru pontificating about 'David Cameraman' and the 'Conservatories'. All this and one 'free exercise' shared with the audience!
We hold regular shows in London and Brighton every month – check out our dates HERE to book tickets to the next show near you! Next stop is Dave's Brighton Comedy Festival on Saturday 20th October BOOK NOW.
