Sarah Adams’ Jade The Folk Singer performance won her the first ever Funny Women Award way back in 2003. Since winning under the guise of Jade, this Aussie has had huge success as one half of Adams & Rea, a comedy partnership with Leisa Rea. Not content with winning the Funny Women Award, Sarah (performing as Adams & Rea) went on to win at the Musical Comedy Awards in 2009 – well done!
How did it feel to be crowned by Funny Women in 2003? At the time it felt great – it was the first award show and no one knew what Funny Women would become. It was all new and exciting.
How has your comedy career changed since winning the award?
Jade the Folk Singer has gone on holiday for a bit, as I grew tired of her whinging. I am now focussed on my comedy partnership Adams & Rea and my band, Kodiak Moon.
What joke or moment set you apart from the other finalists when you won?
No! Was it the wig? I don’t know! It must have been the wig.
Who do you think is the ultimate funny woman?
Jennifer Saunders.
Out of all the previous Funny Women winners, who do you think is the funniest?
Zoe Lyons.
What does 2012 hold in store for you?
I’m focussing most of my efforts on my band, Kodiak Moon. We are recording an album for release later in the year. I’m also continuing to work on my comedy partnership Adams & Rea. We’ve shot a video and will be releasing the single next month, ‘Litta – Pick It Uppa’.
The Funny Women Awards are ten years old this year. What you were doing ten years ago?
Ten years ago to this second I was in my car on the M4, singing along to David Bowie on the radio and wondering whether to stop and buy a Creme Egg at the services….but that’s not what you mean, is it.
Adams & Rea’s single ‘LITTA! (put it in mi bin)’ is available to buy on iTunes.
Sarah’s band Kodiak Moon is playing at the O2 in Islington on Friday 16th March. Click here for more information on Kodiak Moon.
