Yesterday Funny Women founder Lynne Parker was on campus in Cambridge running a Stand Up to Stand Out workshop for the University's Equality and Diversity Network. 50 women from a broad age group and cultures were taken thorugh their paces to explore how humour can help them in their professional, business and academic lives.
"This was particularly wonderful experience for me," explains Lynne. "I understand that the Fitzwilliam Museum is a mecca for academic celebrity, where the likes of Alan Bennett are often spotted quietly musing upon their next project!"
Currently the museum is home to a fantastic exhibition of 'Vermeer's Women: Secrets and Silence' which will be on display until Sunday 15th January 2012. If you haven't seen the film, Girl with a pearl Evieng, we recommend the painting! The intimacy and beauty of Vermeer's exquisite scenes evoking the private world of women in the Dutch Golden Age far better than anything on film – your imagination does the work for you. The exhibit features stunning masterpieces by Vermeer and his 17th-century contemporaries.
