Funny Women introduces Comedy Writing Award…
For the past nine years the Funny Women Awards have helped uncover some of the best female comedians in the UK. But not everybody is a performer, which is why we have launched a new award for comedy writing. If you have a five minute sketch, character monologue or some stand up that you would like us to consider for this special award, we want to see it, whether you're a writer/perform or would like us to arrange someone else to perform it for you.
The greatest challenge of a writer is to get in to the mind set of the opposite sex. The way in which males and females react to situations differs greatly and it takes a skilled and observant writer to portray this accurately.
Time for a little inspiration. Susan Nickson is the writer and creator of BBC’s Two Pints of Lager and A Packet of Crisps. She was only 18 when she started writing the series. The show is still going strong largely due to its host of likeable and believable characters of both sexes.
Susan however, is not a performer but a superb writer and we know that there are some of you out there who have no interest in the limelight. Perhaps you’ve had that great masterpiece shoved to the back of a cupboard for the past decade. Well it’s time to dust it off and get it seen.

- The producers may also consider your entry for the Comedy Writing Award if they think your writing is stronger than your performance.
- If you wish to submit a separate entry for the Comedy Writing Award this must be a completely different piece of work than your entry for the overall Award and you will need to complete another registration as this will be considered as a separate act.
- You may perform your own material for the Writing Award or get somebody to perform it for you. You may use your own performers or we can arrange this for you. You can use male or female performers for this category.
