Funny Women

How did you get into stand-up?

By complete chance! I grew up watching Comedy Central with my dad but only ever saw male comedians so never considered it as a career opportunity. When I got to acting school in London I was presented with the opportunity to write my own show- with the option to make it stand-up. That same year I had started to build a small online following on Tik Tok. When I posted a clip of her stand-up set followers asked for a live show and I have been a full time comedian ever since!

What is it like being a finalist in the 2025 Funny Women Awards?

I’m honoured to be sharing the stage with such hilarious and incredible women. Imposter syndrome is the devil on every performers shoulder, so nights like these are special because they allow you to think “gosh, maybe I am kind of funny and this whole thing isn’t a fluke?”

Why is Funny Women important to you?

When I was in acting school I wrote my final year project on women and feminism in comedy and I grew so passionate about creating space for women in this male dominated field. Funny women is a step in the right direction to gender equality.

Tell us about your comedy style.

Honest, filthy and feminist.

What’s next for you?

I has just finished an Edinburgh run and am now off on a UK tour! There are about 3 tickets sold so far so if anyone would like to see my full show, check the locations out on Ticketmaster.

Who are your favourite Funny Women?

Katherine Ryan and Aisling Bea!

What do you love about stand up?

I feel like I’m just being myself without any filters or trying to be anyone else and people seem to enjoy it. It’s cathartic and freeing.

MEET 2025 STAGE AWARD FINALIST: NICOLA MANTALIOS

I was a regular old punter at a local comedy club called The Grinning Idiot ran by John Smith, back in 2008. I had (and still have) got a really loud laugh so he used to give me free tickets to up the laughter-meter in the room. I just loved it! And one day John let me get on stage to tell a joke (he literally held my hand) I haven’t looked back.
