Liz Kingsman was named the winner of the South Bank award for best breakthrough talent, while Channel 4 hit show We Are Lady Parts was awarded best comedy in a ceremony at the Savoy hotel, hosted by Melvyn Bragg.
Kingsman was presented her award by Eddie Izzard in recognition of One Woman Show, which enjoyed huge success during its run at Soho Theatre, sends up the current trend of Fleabag style self-sabotaging millennial characters.
The comedian beat off competition from a slew of talent, each from a different genre, Gabrielle Creevy (TV drama), Catriona Ward (literature), Nardus Williams (opera), Dani Howard (classical), Rachel Jones (visual art), Emily Suzuki (dance), Samuel Creasey (theatre), Emilia Jones (film) and Wet Leg (pop).
Nida Manzoor’s We Are Lady Parts was up against Alma’s Not Normal, and Starstruck.
Phil Edgar-Jones, director of Sky Arts said: “After a rough few years, we can see the arts start to recover.
“Some incredible work has been produced since we started to emerge from Covid and we are proud to celebrate that with all the brilliant singers, dancers, actors, visual artists and writers this country produces.”
The ceremony will air on Sky Arts this Wednesday at 10pm.
