Edinburgh venue Monkey Barrel has launched a brand new comedy record label, Monkey Barrel Records. Having recorded a select number of 2019 shows at the Edinburgh Fringe, Monkey Barrel will be releasing three of these shows on vinyl.

The first three releases can be pre-ordered now and include some of their very favourite acts:

Double Take & Fade Away from John Kearns. The only two time Edinburgh Comedy Award Winner.

If/Then from Olga Koch. The follow-up to Olga’s 2018 Edinburgh Comedy Awards Best Newcomer nominated show.

Eagle Fire Iron from Ari Eldjárn. Iceland’s biggest comedian’s eagerly-awaited return to the Fringe following his 2017 smash hit, Pardon My Icelandic.

The records are available as part of Monkey Barrel’s crowdfunding campaign and they will only be produced if the venue exceeds their minimum funding goal by Thursday 25th June, so dig deep and donate!

Monkey Barrel says: “The current Coronavirus Crisis has left us, and many people in the Comedy industry without an income. The 2020 Edinburgh Fringe has been cancelled, our Comedy Club remains closed and our fabulous team unable to work.  This is one way we’re hoping to get back on our feet, support some of our very favourite comedians and help bring a bit of laughter back into your homes.”

Olga Koch says: “There is something about going through Monkey Barrel’s thick velvet curtain and performing in front of its classic brick wall that makes you feel like a real stand-up comic. In the years past, I saw some of my favourite Edinburgh Fringe shows at Monkey Barrel, so when I was lucky enough to join their ranks in the summer of 2019, it was truly a dream come true. I am extremely proud of this show, a show that would not have been possible without my wonderful director Charlie Dinkin, the incredibly supportive Berk’s Nest, and of course, Monkey Barrel. Selfishly, I am so excited to have my show performed at my favourite venue immortalised in my favourite medium (the sound is just warmer on vinyl, man). However, I sincerely hope you take a chance on it (or choose the safer and more capable hands of John Kearns or Ari Eldjárn!) whether to hear my jokes or simply the electric atmosphere or simply the electric atmosphere of the best comedy club in the world.”

If all goes well, there are plans to release more records before the end of the year, and when it’s safe to do so, begin a new series of recordings as part of the Monkey Barrel relaunch.
