The deadline for the 2020 Funny Women Stage Awards has passed, but there is still time to enter the Comedy Writing Awards. Funny Women is proud to introduce you to our 2020 Funny Women Comedy Writing Awards Producer Kate Stone!

This will be my second year producing the Funny Women Comedy Writing Awards and my sixth Funny Women Awards overall! Every year I am impressed at how much comic talent there is out there and I love sharing what a talented community we have with the Writing Awards readers and judges.

If you have had a script idea bubbling away for ages then the Comedy Writing Award is a great opportunity for you to give yourself a deadline and get it finished! We’re looking for someone with a real flair for comedy, who is able to bring characters to life and create storylines that intrigue us whether they’re concerned with everyday life or taking us a surreal trip to space.

One of my favourite things about being involved with the Funny Women Awards is hearing about the kickstart it gives to people’s comedy careers. Last year’s Comedy Writing Award winner, Lydia Rynne, shared just how the Awards has helped her: “Winning the Funny Women Comedy Writing Award immediately opened industry doors that I’d been trying to wrench open for years, and I continue to collaborate with many of these companies as a result. At the Awards ceremony itself, I met so many amazing and hilarious women, and I really feel we will be each other’s cheerleaders for years to come. This time a year ago, I wasn’t even going to click send on my application – worried about getting another rejection. I am so glad I swallowed my fear and applied, and thank Funny Women enormously for all their support over the past year.”

There are plenty of tips on scriptwriting in our Tricks of the Trade section, so what are you waiting for! Registration is open and we can’t wait to read your script.

The deadline for registration for the Comedy Writing Award is May 30th. Register here!

Q&A: Leila Navabi, Relay

Relay is a punk-musical one-woman show about love, family and chaos. It starts with a very unusual question: how do you make a baby with your partner, your best friend as sperm donor, and his boyfriend cheering from the side-lines?
