When we go into the room at the Gilded Balloon, Lucie Pohl is waiting for us, sitting on a bench. She greets us with a very friendly demeanour and bursts into dance. She is famous – video game famous – but doesn’t have a toilet in her New York apartment.
When your fictional video game character is more successful than your real self, when you have an entourage and bodyguards and queues of people wanting to talk to you at various comic cons around the world, but don’t have a toilet in your flat, how do you know what’s real? That is the basic premise of the German-American comedian, whose show is a deconstruction of online life vs real life
The performer tells us about her Scottish ex-boyfriend and her Comic-Con life. She delivers her show confidently, through engaging storytelling and fun, lively impressions. The show gifts the audience with a few good jokes, but could have done with a better connecting thread through it all.
