Isa Bonachera: The Great Emptiness

A show about science, space, physics and the great emptiness of the universe? Sounds complicated! Well, prepare to laugh with the great silliness of Isa Bonachera!

Don’t get me wrong, Isa is probably, by far, the smartest person in the room, and maybe because of that she’s able to tell us the story of how she almost touched the stars – or a black hole – in a very goofy way and exuding contagious joy.

There’s a lot of (seemingly) complicated tech to the show. A fancy screen, three different pedals, a mic (ooh), and a fully space suited up comedian. Throughout the show, you’ll find out how Isa always dreamt of being an astronaut, the steps she took to achieve it, and how she became a comedian instead… you’ll have to go to find out!

Along the way, you’ll learn a few fun facts and have plenty of jokes sneak up on you. You may even have an emotional moment, but I wonder if that only happens to those of us who went to the perils of scientific academia.

It’s wonderful to see a performer truly enjoy themselves on stage, despite overheating inside that space suit, while delivering a very well written show, fully up to scratch, and maybe just a little less difficult to write than a PhD thesis.
