With a late show time, Miss Venezuela will probably be the last show you’ll see after a long day of shows, since we’re at the Edinburgh Fringe and that’s just how it works; if you’re doing it right. You’re welcomed in the room by Andrea Spisto, who invites you into her house, decorated with the idols of her childhood, growing up in Venezuela.
What follows is the story of a young woman’s relationship with identity and the struggles of being a Latin American woman in a macho world, where beauty standards and expectations go against her sense of self. In the process, we meet her idols. Strong Latin American women, who aren’t themselves safe from disappointing.
The show uses clowning techniques, character comedy, music and a lot of audience interaction to bring us into this very particular Miss Venezuela’s world. The performer’s confidence and commitment to her material make us accept the invitation and go on a joyous trip into her world.
If none of this is enough, the dance party at the end is worth the go!
