After the huge success of her book Animal, Sara Pascoe announced an interest in writing a new book focused on masculinity. The comedian has now signed a deal to write a this follow up book called Sex Power Money.
Just as Animal focused on the female body, this time Sara will reflect upon the evolutionary and biological background to male psychology and the contradictory messages that society gives about what it means to be a man.
Publishers Faber say: “Much like Pascoe’s Animal: The Autobiography of a Female Body, this book will be funny, enlightening and open-minded all at the same time.”
Sara commented: “There is a direct correlation between vulnerability and poverty and I wanted to explore issues such as sex work and domestic violence not only as purely feminist issues,
“I also wanted to balance my exploration of the female body with my new fascination for the male – which is equally mysterious, surprising, and occasionally shocking. Our prehistoric ape behaviours have to be at the front of our minds if we want to improve as a species: we have to understand where we came from.”
Laura Hassan, Faber & Faber’s editorial director, said: “Hallelujah for Sara Pascoe and her humour, exceptional braininess, and generous spirit of investigation that she brings to her books and her comedy. She takes on the big knotty stuff of life and makes sense of it all. This will be an essential and enlightening read.”
Sex Power Money is due to be published in August 2018.
