We are delighted to announce that registration for the 2017 Funny Women Awards is now officially open!
So, it’s all change at Funny Women, and we are rescheduling the 2017 Funny Women Awards to run the live heats later in the year, with the regional finals and charity final taking place early in 2018. Just like the BAFTAs and Oscars! This includes an exciting collaboration with the Women in Comedy Festival in October where we will be running a series of heats.
So, this is how it works this year.
Those of you who wish to enter our 2017 Stage Award must register by the 30th September 2017 in order to compete in our heats which will run throughout October and November. Regional finals will take place in the new year with the final held in March 2018 – details about how to register here!
If you’re a film maker or you think you have a winning script then be sure to register for the Comedy Shorts or Comedy Writing Award by 31st December 2017.
Festival season will soon be in full swing so look out for female led shows that deserve our attention. You can nominate your favourite shows or your own show for the Best Show Award as long as it’s before 31st December 2017.
Funny Women editor and Comedy Shorts Category creator Kate Stone says: “We are so proud of the Funny Women Awards and every year we discover more fantastic new comic talent across the categories. It’s a great privilege to see so many Funny Women Awards alumni, such as Katherine Ryan, Andi Osho, Sara Pascoe et al, go on to excel in the comedy world.”
Founder and creator of the Funny Women Awards Lynne Parker says: “Every year I think that the Awards can’t get any better and they continue to surpass my expectations. With so many women now actively working in comedy – performing, writing, directing and producing – we’re changing perceptions about women in ways that I never could imagined when I first launched the Awards in 2003.
“I am confident that we will continue to grow and particularly excited about working with Hazel O’Keefe and the Women in Comedy Festival in October. Hazel and I share a huge passion for great female comedy and where better to showcase this than at this unique festival.
“Despite the ongoing challenge of finding sponsorship, I am very proud to announce that the Awards are open and we will work hard to bring you an even bigger, better competition than ever before.”
Good luck!
