Today is ‘Punday’ as the UK Pun Championships take place tonight at its new home De Monfort Hall as part of the Leicester Comedy Festival. 2014 Funny Women Awards finalist Samantha Baines is the first woman in the history of the UK Pun Championships to make the finals.
The UK Pun Championships has been a sell out show for the past three years, celebrating the Great British pun with contestants from across the UK. The winner will follow in the footsteps of Darren Walsh, Leo Kearse and Masai Graham.
Samantha is one of eight contestants who will be punning in the live competition tonight, the finalists have been picked from the largest number of applicants ever.
Leicester Comedy Festival is delighted to announce the 8 contestants that will be punning head-to-head as part of the live competition in February. It was a hard decision process with more entries than ever before and many applicants reaching the high competition standard. The punners will be given various topics chosen at random to pun on and the audience will vote for their favourite puns in whoops and cheers.
