Last night at the Gilded Balloon at the Edinburgh Fringe Heidi Regan won this year’s So You Think You’re Funny comedy competition.
Heidi describes herself as “a slightly surreal, quite deadpan, substantially human comedian. She is originally from Australia which is in the southern hemisphere, which itself is one of the two biggest hemispheres in the world!”
In her winning set Heidi talked about being a terrible receptionist, robots and questioned whether or not she was human. Her prize includes £2500 in cash and the opportunity to perform at Montreal’s Just For Laughs Festival and Norway’s Bergen Humor Fest, Heidi will also have a spot in the Gilded Balloon’s 2017 Fringe programme too.
But it wasn’t just Heidi proving women are funny – whatever their competition, Ireland’s Ruth Hunter was named runner up for her deadpan set and Danielle Walker, another Australian, came second runner up.
So You Think You’re Funny? has been going for 29 years and has championed new comic talent such as Miles Jupp, Dylan Moran and Aisling Bea among others.
Congratulations to Heidi and all the finalists.
