Who the heck is Lenny?

Well, not a ‘who’, but a ‘what’. Lenny, or more precisely ‘Lenny Letter’, is the name of a new site created by Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner. You might recognise Jenni’s name – she was the executive producer of ‘Girls’.

It’s really more of an online newsletter, with long-form features and interviews. When you head to the homepage, you’re directed to the email sign-up button to receive the whole thing. That’s entirely deliberate – intended to create more of a personal, ‘reading a magazine’ sort of experience.

And in each ‘issue’, there’s a lot to read. The letter announcing the launch of Lenny was over 7,000 words long. The Lenny Letter Twitter account bio proudly proclaims ‘there’s no such thing as too much information’. They’re not kidding! For those of you who just can’t get enough of Dunham’s style and interview technique, Lenny landing in your inbox is going to become something to look forward to.

And the topics are surprisingly serious for a funny woman – but no less interesting. One of the first interviews in Lenny Letter was with Hillary Clinton, and another piece talks about milestone women’s rights case Roe vs. Wade. Take a look for yourself in the online archive.

It could almost be a new primer on feminism for women who still aren’t completely sure what that means. Seeing as there’s a full-time team of three people on board, we can expect a lot more from Lenny.

You can also keep track of Lenny Letter on Facebook and Instagram.
