The Women in Comedy Festival is back in Manchester for a third year and it’s bigger and better than ever! It all kicks off on Thursday 15th till Sunday 25th October with more than 50 shows in venues across the city. Actor Maxine Peake, 2008 Funny Women finalist Susan Calman and Isy Suttie are patrons.
Susan Calman said: “I’m supporting the Women in Comedy Festival as a performer because there are few better places to perform than in Manchester, as part of such a supportive and celebratory festival alongside some of the best comics in the country. As a patron I think it’s vital that the festival exists to showcase how diverse female writers and performers are, so that we can finally put to rest the idea that we’re all the same. We’re not. And with such a vast array of comedians showcased in October it’s a privilege to be part of it and to support it.”
The festival is packed with female comedic talent with around 140 acts confirmed including big names such as ‘The Job Lot’s’ Jo Enright, Susan Calman, Tiff Stevenson and sketch group Birthday Girls.
The launch night is at The Frog and Bucket in Manchester on Thursday 15 October where Susan Calman will introduce Jo Enright, Bolton comic Sophie Willan, Laughing Cows’ Kerry Leigh and Annette Fagon.
With acts fresh from the Edinburgh Fringe such as Israeli human rights lawyer Daphna Baram, Jo Coffey, EMMA nominated Joy Carter, Kiri Pritchard-McLean, Chella Quint, Sally Anne Hayward, Sara Mason, Eleanor Conway and Evelyn Mok, this has something for everyone.
You can also catch Hayley Ellis, Harriet Dyer, Kerry Leigh, Sahar Mirhadi, Amy Vreeke, Lara A King, Carol Robson, Pernilla Hammargren, Soula Notos, Ellen Tomlinson and Nina Gilligan. Plus a special exclusive preview of Susan Calman’s brand new show.
If you want to take this opportunity to test your own comedy skills look out for the festival’s open mic nights. There are also compilation shows, workshops, plays, sketch and book launches to look out for.
