After giggling through 10 amazing female comedy acts, last night (September 23rd) the judges crowned their Funny Women Awards 2015 winner. It certainly wasn’t lucky 13 for our entrants – yes, that is how many years the Awards have been running for so far.

Our finalists this year raised the bar and the laughs all night. We were treated to a comedy song by Tamar Broadbent, Jane Postlethwaite‘s character comedy as writer Joy Hope, and unusually religious jokes from ‘gigging vicar’ Maggy Whitehouse.

Alongside Desiree, Sarah Keyworth took second place and Helen Monks came third. Julie Ann Meaney, Rosana Bosanac, Kate Kennedy and Sophie Duker rounded out the list of brave ladies taking the stage. An amazing top 10.

As Lynne Parker herself enthused about last night:

“Last night’s Awards hit a new high in standards. Polished, varied and talented performances from all 10 finalists for the stage award surpassed my expectations. Female comedy has come a long way since I started the Awards 13 years ago and it’s here to stay!

“Desiree Burch took charge and owned that stage. An incredible, vibrant and multi-talented woman who thoroughly deserves to take our top award.”

And… as tradition dictates, fourth place and a delightful bunch of flowers went to our fabulous host, Kerry Godliman. Her clipboard skills have to be seen to be believed. Kerry was also just as supported by Benefit Cosmetics UK as we were – wonder if she’s worked out just how much lippy she had on?

In the Comedy Shorts category, ‘Defrosted’ by Rachel Marwood took the win. The top prize in the Comedy Writing category for the best script extract went to Christine Entwistle for ‘Do you wish to continue?’ Look out for both of these talented ladies on your screens in future.
