Notorious procrastinator Jennifer Saunders has long teased us with the prospect of an Ab Fab film and earlier this year it was confirmed that a script was finally in the works. Speaking on Loose Women Jennifer confirmed that she hoped filming would commence in Autumn.

Jennifer told the loose women that the Ab Fab cast will film in London and perhaps the south of France, “I’m waiting for the budget! It could be anywhere – if it’s a big budget it will be the Bahamas!”

As for the productivity of Jennifer we can thank her comedy partner Dawn French who bet Jennifer £10,000 on live radio that she wouldn’t write the script in a year. Jennifer got the script to Dawn just in time – on 31st December 2014.

Joanna Lumley has also encouraged Jennifer to bring Patsy to the big screen with the threat of the cast’s mortality: “Joanna said to me, ‘do it before we die!’ We’re all on the brink!”

However Jennifer had entertained reservations “I thought, ‘wouldn’t it be awful if it was awful.'” A valid concern. Absolutely Fabulous is a TV series many of us hold close to our hearts, it was funny in the 1990s because it seemed so other-worldly with designer labels, mobile phones and fast moving lives.

Now in 2015 we might not pop pills like Eddy and Patsy but we can pop corks (ok not Bolly but Aldi Prosecco does the job) just as frequently and our thirst for the new makes us more like Eddy than the Saffys we were.

We hope the Ab Fab film will have us all popping corks to toast female comedy on the big screen!
