Over the eleven (!) years we’ve been running the Funny Women Awards, we’ve had the great pleasure of witnessing first-hand the hilarious female comedians out there at the start of the careers on the comedy circuit. And what an illustrious bunch they are, with past winners of the awards including Katherine Ryan, Andi Osho and Zoe Lyons (and a runner-up named Sarah Millican, whoever she is).

Since April, Funny Women have been searching the UK and Ireland for up-and-coming female comedians, and boy have we found a few!

We’ve seen everything from an opera singing bag lady, a puppet monkey explaining the beauty of Space, a physical theatre interpretation of Space…you name it, we’ve probably seen it and laughed until our sides hurt.

It’s been an absolute pleasure to see the sheer variety of talent out there on the circuit, and a great opportunity to connect with so many other female comedians. As always, we are in total awe of the courage and talent shown throughout the competition-it takes guts to get up there on stage, and we salute you all.

The registration fee and ticket sales have played an incredibly important part in supporting the great work that Refuge does every day helping women and children affected by domestic violence. By the end of the awards season, we hope to have raised over £10,000 for this fantastic charity.

So, out of the over 150 talented acts, we are delighted to announce the semi-finalists who will be competing for a place in the Funny Women Awards Final in September…
