On the one hand I’m really sad that I’ve not personally had the chance to see Bridget Christie’s show here at the Edinburgh Fringe this year. It’s been full due to a consistent buzz about how good it is! On the other hand, I’m thrilled for Bridget’s sell out success which has today been further rewarded with her winning the biggest comedy prize here at the Fringe.
Bridget’s show, ‘A Bic for Her’ has won Best Show in the Fosters Edinburgh Comedy Awards 2013. I’m still reliant on a review for what the show’s all about but can definitely vouch for her hard work and commitment since I first laid eyes on her in 2004 when she made it into the final of the Funny Women Awards. Every day for the last three weeks, Bridget leaves her two young children in the care of her comedian husband Stewart Lee (there’s a comedy dynasty in the making!) while she goes to work.
The shows have evolved – from foppish kings, the witchmaster general, black death and ant-ism, we’ve seen it all through Bridget’s eyes! It’s great that she's won this award by coming out as herself. No donkey heads, antennae or costumes were used in the making of this show! After winning our best show award here at Edinburgh in 2007 (now replaced by a new best show category as part of our annual Funny Women Awards) we’ve been privileged to continue working with Bridget and now along wth the entire Funny Women Team, male and female, we are celebrating her success.
