Despite the fact that the shortlist for best joke didn’t include a single female punch line – (boo,) we are delighted to hear that ‘So You Think You’re Funny’ winner Aisling Bea and 2006 Funny Women Awards winner Bridget Christie have both been nominated for Fosters Comedy Awards. Aisling’s show ‘C’est La Bea’ has been sold out for the entire run, whilst Bridget’s show ‘A Bic for Her’ is a shortened version of her recent BBC Radio Four series ‘Bridget Christie Minds the Gap’.
Aisling and Bridget are in great company, along with a great selection of male comedians ranging from Fringe veterans to comics just making their name on the circuit. In the 32 year history of the Fosters Comedy Awards (formerly Perrier Awards) there have only been two female winners for Best Show – Jenny Éclair and Laura Solon, and three winners for Best Newcomer – Josie Long, Sarah Millican and Roisin Connaty.
You can see Bridget talk about her show on BBC Two’s 'The Culture Show' along with fellow comedians Claudia O’Doherty (Best Comedy Show nominee last year) and Canadian comedian Dana Alexander. For more details click HERE.
Bridget Christie ‘A Bic for Her’ is showing at The Stand at 11.10am until Sunday 25th August.
Aisling Bea: ‘C’est La Bea’ is showing at The Gilded Balloon Teviot at 6.30pm until Sunday 25th August.
