To Poo or not to Poo: Sarah Millican at the Fringe

I have always thoroughly enjoyed Sarah Millican’s stand up. Therefore I am happy to report that after seeing her new show ‘Homebird’ that I still thoroughly enjoy her stand up. Sarah’s new show recounts her recent house purchase and her quest to make her nest a home complete with her rooster and a cat.

The jokes are consistent and unpredictable which kept the audience constantly laughing at both the material and the unexpected twists in her story. Nothing far-fetched, zany or wacky – just wholesome cynicism with some added poo, anus and fanny jokes.

Now I don’t normally like poo humour (it wasn’t all poo, don’t get me wrong) but as I have two young sons I have grown to appreciate how funny it can be. This isn’t a slight against Sarah Millican at all as I find kids humour honest and unfiltered. Also, it is hard not to laugh when said faecal humour is something we can relate too.

Her relationship observations are true to the heart and she manages to highlight the shortfalls in co-habitation while simultaneously exploding with love for her partner. What I loved too about her style as that she still seems genuinely chuffed when people laugh at her jokes.

If you get a chance to see her sold out show at the Fringe (The Stand Comedy Club, York Road) then hurrah!  I managed to score a ticket via twitter from one of her followers who had a spare. You can also queue an hour before the show for returns.  So hey now, hey now, don’t dream it’s over.  Otherwise for more tour dates check her website at www.sarahmillican.co.uk.
