Having been a finalist in the 2004 Funny Women Awards, we always knew Bridget Christie was destined for big things, and we weren’t wrong. Nine years later, she has several successful Edinburgh shows under her belt (including last year’s critically acclaimed War Donkey) and has just started her own radio series on BBC Radio 4.

Having realised last year that misogyny – like shiny leggings – had made a comeback, Bridget Christie Minds The Gap sees Bridget tackle a host of issues surrounding the big F word (we mean feminism, of course). Featuring Fred MacAuley playing a variety of male characters, episode one took us right to the beginning of Bridget’s journey, when a bad smell in the women’s section of a bookshop made her realize that something had to be done about the fight for equality. Why is feminism still a dirty word, and why on earth have Bic designed a pen just for women?

We sent some of the Funny Women team down to the recording of the show’s first episode – featuring the Bronte sisters, cooking for Kirsty Allsop’s husband and a very unhelpful bookshop assistant, it had the audience laughing out loud throughout. We loved it, and can’t wait to hear more. We’ll avoid spoiling it for those of you who haven’t heard it yet, but if you didn’t get to tune in don’t worry – it’s still available online and there are three more episodes to go!

If you’re new to Bridget’s work, then this weekend is the perfect time to get acquainted – along with Bridget Christie Minds the Gap, she’ll be performing live at the Women of the World Festival at London’s Southbank Centre. You can see War Donkey at the Purcell Rooms tonight at 8pm.

Feeling particularly inspired by Bridget’s comedy genius? The Funny Women team and some very special guests are also at the WOW Festival all weekend, running comedy surgeries and armed with all the information about this year’s Awards – and we’d love to see you there!

You can see Bridget in action at the Purcell Rooms, Southbank Centre, tonight at 8pm. For more info click HERE.
