Put improv clubs on the NHS

This week the very first Funny Women Players met in central London for a bit of creative sharing, improvising and good old fashioned messing about.

Bearing in mind the inclement weather, it was nice to see so many rosy faced ladies ready for a bit of fun. And some so rosy that it was even their name.

We started with some warm up games lead by the glorious Emma Stroud. Some of us were a bit blonde when it came to the rules and how to play, some of us were a bit competitive and some of us (me) already had the raging giggles. But we soon learned that none of that is particularly important. What counts is energy and commitment. If you can give those two things then you're on to a winner. Even if you're only playing a game called 'Zoof'.

Emma passed the baton onto the very lovely and frankly, hilarious Courtney Cornfield who started us on some improv exercises. I won't go into the details but I will tell you that some of the things that came up were very small minions, rocket surgery, golf, a man called One Eye Lopez and horse hair wigs.

Maybe you had to be there.

And by that I mean, you should. Keep your eyes peeled for the next session girls, because not one of the women in that room this weekend left without having done a teeny weeny bit of wee in their thermal pants from laughing. It was liberating, joyous and a great opportunity to meet new people and try something new. It should be on the NHS so it should.

And for those of you who prefer to watch the comedy rather than create it, get yourself to the Komedia in Brighton this Saturday (that's the 26th January) for a sterling line up of female hilariators (that's my new word I'm trying out – use it, I don't mind) including ME! The very inoffensive and pleased to be there Lucy Frederick, queen of cool.

I shall be hosting the evening but…. stop the proverbial press…! It's only the very amazing KATHERINE RYAN who's been on the telly box as our headliner! You will also enjoy turns from Tamar Broadbent, Pub landlady Dolly Slateman, Tessa Waters, Cynthia Levin, Cheish Merryweather and Jane Postlethwaite. Can you imagine a better evening? I definitely can not. Get your tickets and I will see you there!
