LOCO has a simple mission: to kickstart the next generation of British-based comedy film-makers. The heart of this is their training programme, which runs all year, as well as their reknowned film festival, which this year includes Working Women on Saturday 26th January, a day long celebration of smart, funny women on screen put together in partnership with the Underwire Festival.
The day is supported by our favourite cosmetic brand, Benefit Cosmetics, and will include previews of some of Britain's best women writers, debates of the opportunities – or lack of them – for women in the industry and more. Some of our favourite female writers and performers, including Katy Brand (Peep Show, Mongrels, Katy Brand’s Big Ass Show), Sara Pascoe, (Twenty Twelve, The Thick Of It, Emily’s Very Sad Play), Caroline Quentin, (Men Behaving Badly, Blue Murder, Restoration Home) and Natalie Haynes (BBC Radio 4 Saturday Review, BBC Radio 7 Spanking New). You can see how the full programme lines up HERE.
Rachel Mars will also be performing extracts from her remarkable live performance The Way You Tell Them, which looks at comedy, autobiography and the pleasures and perils of being funny. A panel discussion follows hosted by Funny Women founder, Lynne Parker looking at how women use humour in their lives based on issues arising from Rachel's show.
Funny Women will be hosting a *free* drinks reception at the end of the day with refreshments kindly provided by our friends at Blue Nun wines and some live entertainment! If you'd like to break into the comedy industry, hang out with comedy veterans or just come along for a drink and laugh, we'd love to see you there.
