Review – Kerry Gilbert Triumphs

Kerry flaunts what she’s got.  A pretty girl with a certain sexy demeanour – all of this is incorporated into an hour of her crazy musings.  It is mainly a sketch show featuring re-enactments of scenes in her life.

Despite her attractiveness and confident, off beat performance style, there is a whiff of sadness about the show – the lovelorn single woman, who eventually triumphs with the help and wisdom of such knowing characters as ‘Pauline’ and ‘Gary Tits’.

I think there is a lot more in Kerry than this kind of self-generated comedy.  She does herself proud with her informality, which is the bit l like about her best.  Setting up a sketch with an audience in person is a great device and when she interacts the whole place comes to life.  As the run goes on, I’m sure she’ll do more.

Kerry already has a body of work to her name and the promotion for her show this year states that she will make you feel like a winner. Kerry returned from last year's Edinburgh Fringe as a winner with rave reviews for her debut solo show ‘Kerry Gilbert Gives Love a Bad Name’ so she’s got to live up to this at least this year.

I think there’s more to come… but the current rating reflects what I saw.

What Kerry talks about: splitting up with her boyfriend, moving back home with her parents.
