So here we are- the penultimate semi-final of the Funny Women Awards 2012! With a glammed-up team (thanks to the free Benebus makeuppers) the talented and engaging Sara Pascoe hosting, a willing audience and six great semi-finalists, we certainly had a jam-packed hour!
Sara’s enthusiasm was infectious as she shared her experience of female comedy, and, as ever, the audience couldn’t help but be completely disarmed by her easy charm.(catch Sara’s show ‘Sara Pascoe- The Musical! At Assembly George Square, and read our review HERE).
Scotland based Alison Eales was first up to perform, with a thoughtful set and keen wordplay that secured her place as runner-up.
Madeleine Culp charmed the audience with her whimsical and surreal styling’s. An impression of her ‘spirit animal’ Mick Hucknell of Simply Red (of course) was a particular highlight (Catch her show HERE).
The Silky Pair’s tight set and honed on-stage banter had the audience in fits of laughter, and their performance was enough to garner them a place in the final! (Catch their show HERE).
Njambi Mcgrath brought her sharp, dark one-liners about her home country of Kenya, and Diane Fitton her jaunty and chatty style that we first saw in Manchester (Catch her show HERE). Ann Addison’s cautionary tales of male anatomy + vacuum cleaner+ boredom delighted a gleeful audience.
So well done to The Silky Pair! We are just a week away from announcing the full line-up of finalists, so check back soon. You can read a list of finalists confirmed so far HERE.
Funny Women are at the Assembly Bosco tent every day at 2pm with a fantastic line-up of the very best in female comedy, and free Benefit goodies! Book tickets HERE.
