The Leicester Comedy Festival is the longest running comedy festival in Europe, and has played host to some of the best stand-up comedians over the past 19 years. Each February, over 60,000 people enjoy the buzz of the festival which is already well underway for this year. Until the 19th February, one of England’s oldest cities is transformed into a cultural hub as the festival also incorporates comedy film, poetry & spoken word, comic theatre, photographic and art exhibitions, and children's shows into its rich mix.
Funny Women has been a feature of the festival for the last seven years so we’ve decided to throw a bit of a party this year to kick start our 10th Anniversary celebrations. All this takes place on Wednesday 15th February in the very special surroundings of Hotel Mayaingo, the stunning boutique hotel located in the heart of Leicester.
As well as some celebratory bubbles and nibbles, we’ll be sharing some comic moments with two fantastic winners of the Funny Women Awards – Suzy Bennett from 2006 and Lara A King who won the overall award last year.
For those of you who nurse a desire to tread the boards and become a future winner of the Awards, we are also holding one of our hugely popular Stand Up to Stand Out workshops between 1.00pm and 3.00pm on 15th February, again at Hotel Mayaingo. If you think you have comedy talent to explore or a need to build some confidence and presentation skills, then book now for this workshop which sells out in London.
The female heritage of Leicester is excellent with Roseanne Barr performing her first ever UK stand-up at the Comedy Festival in 2006. Other leading female acts who have performed include Jo Brand, Jenny Éclair, Shappi Khorsandi, Josie Long and Sarah Millican. As the UK’s leading female comedy brand we’re looking forward to sharing our 10th anniversary celebration with festival goers.
Plus being funny can save you money! Hotel Mayaingo is also offering 10% discount for anybody who tells a joke when booking a room during the festival! More details HERE. Offer available until 19th February.
