The Voodoo Lounge is too small for Lady Cariad and all her characters. After watching her show, I suspect it isn't because it's a free event. Fast and sharp, Cariad Lloyd makes no bones that she is not only a comedian but an 'actress' pointing out that some of the characters are funny, and some are not but then, 'it's not about you, it's all about me!'
Kicking off with an audition piece as herself, the actress (stroke comedian), Cariad introduces a variety of characters very different from those many female comics bring onto stage from the young Andrew providing a somewhat skewed Russian history lesson to Jacque Le Cock a french rapper and parcour expert.
Although perfectly scripted it is obvious that Cariad Lloyd has full knowledge of her characters although she is just as comfortable and completely at ease going off script, being directed by the audience she has engaged and proving herself to be naturally and organically funny.
With a fantastic grasp of character and a talent for accents, I won't be surprised to see Cariad Lloyd commanding a bigger paying audience in a larger venue next year.
