Funny Women Awards Final: Review

20 years of Funny Women! Not too shabby, is it? This year’s Funny Women Awards Final, took place on Thursday evening at the Bloomsbury Theatre in London and I’m still reeling!
Kate Berlant: Kate

Kate Berlant’s show Kate, running for a full month at Soho Theatre, has all the glitz and glamour of a west end/Broadway show, complete with merch, a mini Kate museum and a ‘kate-cessions’ stand (genius).
Lindsey Santoro: Pink Tinge

Much like Lindsey’s hair, stage props and show title are all unapologetic in their pink-ness, brummy comic Lindsey Santoro in her comedy show Pink Tinge is a loud, blast of energy, that overall, is unapologetically herself. If I had to describe Santoro in 3 words, they would be: quick, crude and humble. The latter is immediately obvious from the off; as we enter the show, Santoro is there, on the ground, seating and greeting the audience with a friendly ‘alright bab?’ in between spurts of her (iconic at this point) loud cackle.
Lou Wall: Lou Wall Vs The Internet

Melbourne based comic Lou Wall’s show Lou Wall vs The Internet is nothing short of a riot – an immaculately crafted one at that – with not a single second wasted. It’s a chaotic, mile-a-minute, 4th wall breaking invitation into Wall’s mind, specifically, her complex relationship with the internet, and her best friend (which, to be clear, are two separate things).
Leila Navabi: Composition

Eamonn Holmes, GB News, potatoes, and ear piercing in Claire’s Accessories (oh, the memories!) are just some of the topics dropped into Leila Navabi’s addictively catchy songs in this fast-paced hour. Yet Leila isn’t chasing fame in quite the same way as her peers on the comedy circuit.
Lorna Rose Treen: Skin Pigeon

Without doubt, the silliest show on the Fringe this year is 2022 Funny Women double award winner Lorna Rose Treen’s Skin Pigeon. From the second Treen bursts out from a huge pile of clothes, dressed as a 9-year-old Brownie Guide, to the end she keeps a high energy handle on a show that in less able hands could descend into chaos.
