Funny Women

In 2025 Funny Women proudly launched The Glitter Challenge, mentoring 10 amazing women who have taken on a unique Comedy Challenge to raise vital funds for The Glitter Project.  Each challenger will be mentored by an experienced comedian, helping them write and perfect their own unique 5 minute set. The challenge culminates with a night of stand up, our challengers appearing live on stage at the world’s largest arts festival, Edinburgh Fringe 2025

The funds we raise from The Glitter Challenge will go towards giving women from all walks of life access to incredible creative opportunities in a safe, inclusive environment.

Let’s meet our next challenger…Val Troy

Dublin-based comedy writer Val swapped spreadsheets for standup as she approached her fiftieth birthday. Accountants aren’t known for their sparkling wit or dazzling personalities but Val has firmly concluded that making a room full of people in a comedy club laugh is way more craic than debits and credits.

Val has recently written her debut commercial fiction novel & her co-written comedy screenplay caught the eye of Female Pilot Club.

All of which forms part of her one woman strategy to convince people that accountants can have a sense of humour.

FANCY A CHALLENGE? THE GLITTER PROJECT NEEDS YOU!

Goodbye ‘Moira Rose’

Like many women ‘of a certain age’ I am both saddened and shocked by the death of Catherine O’Hara, the actor who played the unforgettably eccentric matriarch ‘Moira Rose’ in Schitt’s Creek.
