Gig guide show posters

It’s April, Melbourne International Comedy Festival is well under way, the sun is shining for the first time ever* in the UK, and if we ignore for a sec what’s happening the other side of the globe with this tariff hockey-cokey we can focus on enjoying some cracking comedy shows this month. So strap in, get the sun cream on, and maybe an ice lolly, and note your calendars for some top quality giggles.

*when I say ‘ever’ I mean since the year-that-should-not-be-named… (2020)

ALIX FRANKLIN: GURL CODE

Comic Alix Franklin is back with a brand new, heartwarming, musical hour show, about life becoming more colourful after she transitioned in 2024. It’s also about how she loves to give people furniture on the tube. Need I say more?

AMY MASON: BEHOLD!

Viral on Tik Tok most notably for her impressions of the four types of Bristol mum (if you haven’t seen already, please do: here), Amy Mason’s debut hour from the Fringe 2024 explores what happened after her socials got hacked; the strange-ness of online life, and naturally, the hackers sending her dildos. Not one to miss!

ALICE SNEDDEN: HIGHLY CREDIBLE!

Co-writer of hit BBC and HBO show Starstruck starring Rose Matafeo, Alice Snedden is back on stage doing stand up, after a panny-d induced short break from performing. In her words, you can expect material on her car getting stolen, fertility and some gay stuff.

2. WORK IN PROGRESS SHOWS

KATE BERLANT: lIVE! Work in progress

After critically acclaimed show Kate in 2023 – a meta one woman show about Kate and her love of theatre – Kate Berlant is back at Soho Theatre with her latest Work In Progress show this month. Always silly, you’re left wondering how much Berlant is playing, keeping us on our feet at every turn. You can read our review of her last hour here.

Sophie Garrad: Poor Little Rich Girl – Work in Progress

With over 60 million views on Instagram and Tik Tok, you may know Sophie Garrad from her hilarious online skits – predominantly about posh girlies living in London. Also nabbing a finalist spot at the So You Think You’re Funny Awards, she’s an up-and-coming force to be reckoned with. Garrad performs her work in progress this month before her debut hour show at the Fringe this year.
