Finally, the month is February, the mood is excited and grateful for the end of the 5 (hundred??) week-long January, and for those who partook in a dry, (accidentally) damp or vegan month, what better way to celebrate than with one of these side-splittingly funny comedy shows, with a glass of booze and a side of dairy for good measure…delicious. From fresh debut hours, established tour shows and brand new WIP material to wicked and wonderful variety nights, we’ve got it all here for you.

1. TOURS, WIPS and DEBUTS

SARAH KEYWORTH, MY EYES ARE UP HERE

Mon 26-9 Feb-March @ 9:00 PM, Soho Theatre

Not only has Sarah Keyworth graced our screens on of 8 Out Of 10 Cats, Live At The Apollo as well as an Hour special Dark Horse on Prime TV, she also won Best Newcomer at Edinburgh Fringe 2018 AND bagged Funny Women Award runner up 2015 (we think, the highlight). Catch one night of her 2 week run at Soho Theatre, you won’t be disappointed.

JULIA MASLI, HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

Tues 30-24 Jan-Feb @ 9:00 PM, Soho Theatre

Julia Masli’s show cannot be described, you just have to go and see it. Take our word for it. A whopping 3 and a half week stint at Soho Theatre, you have more than enough chances to bag a ticket. So go!!

ROSE MATAFEO, WIP

Sun-Tues 18-20 Feb @ 5:30-8:00 PM, Angel Comedy, The Bill Murray

Creator and star of sit-com Starstruck, contestant in Taskmaster and winner of the Edinburgh Comedy Award 2018 with her hit show Horndog, it’s safe to say Matafeo is a comic star known around the globe. This month, she’s performing her WIP show at The Bill Murray, and it’s sure to be a hoot and a half.

JESSICA FOSTEKEW, METTLE

Thurs-Sat 8-10 Feb @ 9:30 PM, Soho Theatre

Jessica Fostekew returns for February’s gig guide, but with a different show; Mettle. So it still counts? Fostekew was nominated for the Edinburgh Fringe Award in 2019, and subsequently an online special of her tours Hench and Wench. This show is about purpose, pace, passion and hustling harder than ever.

LARA RICOTE, LITTLE TINY WET SHOW (BAPTISM)

Weds-Sat 21-2 Feb-March @ 9:15 PM, Soho Theatre

We’re big fans of Lara Rictoe at Funny Women (Funny Women Award winner 2022), and she is back doing a large run at Soho Theatre of her new show which covers topics of being in the present, mortality and the game we call life, with surreal and partially interactive bits thrown in as well.

Comedy Shorts Award Entry Requirements

The deadline for registration for the Comedy Shorts Award has passed.

Funny Women NextUp…Comedy Shorts Award

Are you a budding Director? Producer? Screenwriter? Are you collaborating with friends to make a funny video? Then we are looking for YOU!

If you have a short film or sketch that you think is hilarious, then enter your work for our Comedy Shorts Award to be in with a chance of winning some life-changing support and mentoring from comedy professionals.

WHAT KIND OF FILM ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?

A 1- 6 minute film that can take the form of anything comical. It’s a great opportunity to show us your creative flair and have fun!

WHO CAN ENTER?

This award is open to all women filmmakers and content developers. The film must be an original narrative created, produced and devised by a woman, or women, although male cast and crew members are allowed.

ARE THERE ANY ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR MY FILM?

Yes – we require all films to be 6 minutes or under, to be entirely original dialogue, to not feature brand logos and most importantly, to only use music with the written consent of the performer and/or publisher either personally or via the PRS system https://www.prsformusic.com/ .

WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH MY FILM?

We will broadcast selected entries on our Funny Women YouTube channel and social media (so keep an eye out) and the top 10 finalists’ films will also hosted on a dedicated Funny Women Comedy Shorts Awards page on our website. We will also broadcast the final 3 entries as part of the grand final night.

HOW IS IT JUDGED?

Films are judged for production, concept, delivery/performance, creativity, writing and overall funniness. The top 10 films are then viewed by an independent judging panel of top television and film industry professionals who will choose one overall winner and two runners up. The final three will be invited to attend the grand final in London on the 23rd September.
