The results of this year’s Edinburgh Awards for Best Show and Best Newcomer have been announced this morning. Taking home the Best Newcomer Award for 2023 is Urooj Ashfaq, with her debut show Oh No! The Best Show Award 2023 has been awarded to Ahir Shah, for his show Ends.

Urooj Ashfaq, a Mumbai based comic, previously performed her show earlier this year at Soho Theatre in London, and gained aplomb as a comic from getting to the Final of TLC’s show Queens of Comedy. Previous accolades also include writing for sit com Die Trying. Ashfaq is an impressive force to be reckoned with, especially considering all she’s achieved at 22.

Ahir Shah, a London based comic, was previously nominated for the Edinburgh Best Show Award in 2017 for his show Control, 2018 for his show Duffer, and now 2023 for his show Ends. Shah is known for his writing and performances on BBC Two’s show The Mash Report, as well as appearances on multiple UK panel shows; Have I Got News For You, and Mock The Week, to name a few.

Ashfaq and Shah were amongst the following comics in this year’s 2023 Award nominees:
