Sophie Willan has scooped yet another Bafta for her show Alma’s Not Normal. Willan was awarded best female performance in a comedy programme in the show which she created.

This award follows on from Willan’s winning a Bafta craft award for writing the pilot episode of Alma’s Not Normal.

The comedian dedicated this award to her grandmother who raised her and, sadly, died during the filming of the last series.

Willan was up against tough competition from nominees Aimee Lou Wood for Sex Education, Aisling Bea for This Way Up, Anjana Vasan for We Are Lady Parts Natasia Demetriou for Stath Lets Flats, and Rose Matafeo for Starstruck.

Best scripted comedy went to Motherland, writer Holly Walsh accepted the award on behalf of the writers behind the show, and thanked the cast, director, editor, crew and producer. Walsh also acknowledged the other nominated shows for showing “amazing women being funny and stupid and dumb and beautiful and everything you want to see”.

Congratulations to everyone!
