Comedian and actor Catherine Tate is set to star in a new Netflix mockumentary series set in a women’s prison, called Hard Cell.
In the six-part series, Tate will play multiple characters as a film crew follows the inmates and staff of HMP Woldsley, capturing the penal system at its ‘brutal, humorous’ best.
Executive producer Kristian Smith of Leopard Pictures who is making the series said: “We cannot wait to show audiences on Netflix the inside of HMP Woldsley, our fictional prison occupied by the fantastic creations of Catherine Tate.
“This series is funny and touching all at once, revealing what life might be like in a British women’s correctional facility.”
A former BBC employee, Smith commissioned Catherine Tate’s Nan, the sitcom that centred on her foul-mouthed character Joannie Taylor.
Tate added: “Exciting aint it? Exciiiiiiiiiiiting!!!”
Hard Cell is in production now and will launch on Netflix in 2022.
