2009 Funny Women Awards winner London Hughes has another accolade to add to her trophy case! The comedian and presenter won the Royal Television Society award for best entertainment for her work as team captain on ITV2’s rap panel show Don’t Hate The Playaz.

The judges described London as “authentic, witty, and with an infectious personality”, we agree! Due being in quarantine, London was unable to receive her award in person and instead recorded an acceptance speech from Los Angeles, where a bottle of trusty hand sanitiser stood in for the award!

Derry Girls star Saoirse-Monica Jackson won in the best female comedy performance category for her role in the Channel 4 sitcom. The judges said the actor had brought a “truly stand-out performance in a brilliantly funny series, she confidently commits to the character despite the craziness of the world she inhabits.”

As is tradition, Fleabag won the Best Scripted Comedy Award, which the judges said was: “beautifully accomplished, supremely well-written and performed”.

The ceremony was hosted by Paul Merton and the event was streamed live to nominees and the audience at home via the Royal Television Society website.

Wayne Garvie, chair of the RTS programme awards said: “We are all facing an incredibly difficult time and rightfully have made responsible changes to the format,

“Despite this, we would like to acknowledge the incredible contribution of all our nominees to the UK’s television output and celebrate our deserving winners.”

Congratulations to all the winners and nominees!
