Funny Women

We all feel differently about Christmas, some people love it, some hate it, but what we can agree on is we all like a laugh – presumably that’s why you’re here. So the Funny Women staff all got together and shared what makes us laugh at Christmas…

Lynne Parker, Chief Executive: “Christmas is a time for family reminiscing. My late father was obsessed and even had his own Santa outfit and built Christmas grottos in our front garden. One year he created a ‘nativity’ scene with my dolls that resembled a scene from Bride of Chucky! we still laugh in horror about that each year.”

Mariana Feijó, Web and Social Media Manager: “This photo of baby me crying my eyes out cause my mum’s Santa outfit is really rubbish is one of the funnier Xmas related things for me.

“[also] the fact that Netflix has a collection of really bad Christmas movies is also very amusing and a fact I only found out this year.”

Kate Stone, Editor and Producer: “My family has a tradition of doing homemade Christmas presents which started as a thrifty-living thing in The Year of the Redundancies/recession and sometimes the results and ambition (usually of what I make, this year I’ve pickled grapes and… I’ll let you know if they’re a success) make me laugh. What will really make me laugh this Christmas (seamless segue) is the Funny Women Christmas Special on Sunday 15th December, at Brighton Komedia with Sara Barron opening and Jessica Fostekew headlining.

Becky Singh, Awards Director: “My hot takes on Christmas and what’s funny about it are very cynical and extremely Grinch-like!”

Rachel Barber, Time of the Month procucer: “When I hear the start of Mariah for the first time that year!”
