Award-winning comedian Heidi Regan has described herself in the past as a slow burn, which really means she is incredibly clever and funny but her performance doesn’t make a song and dance about it. Meaning that in a hot and airless room Regan doesn’t really get the response she deserves, even with her kind offer to squirt anyone who needs cooling down.
This year Regan has decided to take on the hot topic that is time travel, baby Hitler jokes and all. We all think about time travel, what we’d go back and change or say to our younger selves if we could (no touching though). Regan is no different, she considers travelling back in time to encourage her younger self to come out earlier, maybe try comedy sooner – even if it does take away the time she’s supposed to spend guarding the amulet, as is her family’s duty.
There are so many lines that are just genius in this show, delivered with a deadpan quietness so that each zinger (guys, they ARE zingers) takes you by surprise, which of course makes them all the funnier.
Regan ends the show on an absolute high, with a joke that perfectly demonstrates her talent for linking the micro with the macro and somehow bringing whimsy into anything and everything.
