What happens to a show that relies massively on audience interaction, and was developed having as test subjects willing Americans, when presented to an audience of (mostly) British people who have to have their words and emotions pulled out of them? When in the hands of a talented performer, it might only mean a little bit more fatigue for her at the end of the day.

In her UK debut, Courtney Pauroso brings us a story composed of many stories, or as many as the ages a woman goes through. Throughout the show, we follow the same character – Dale Ravioli – growing old, going through all the exhilarating changes and discoveries and all the sad, difficult moments. The narrative doesn’t shy away from life’s darkest moments, but there’s so much silliness and utter raucous energy, that laughter is guaranteed to be just around the corner.

The show relies massively on audience interaction, which I imagine may make it feel different for audiences attending on different days. The main audience contributor on the day I got to see the show was great and even tidied up the stage at one point!

Despite taunting me with a yoga ball right at the start, reminding me mine is still in its box, and showing me the flexibility and strength it could help me achieve if I just used it more often, I soon stopped thinking about my own life and dived deep in Dale Ravioli’s story.
