Funny Women

We have been busy since we opened the 2019 Funny Women Awards! Earlier this year we invited you to send in video clips of your stand-up comedy for the chance to compete in the Funny Women Stage Award. Since then we’ve watched 100s of video clips, all 433 videos went through the internal judging and scoring process before we invited those who were successful to perform at one of 13 heats, travelled to London, Dublin, Brighton, Coventry, Bristol, Edinburgh and Manchester to see some of the most exciting new female comedy talent around in this first round of 13 live Stage Award heats.

Funny Women Awards director Becky Singh said: “This year we received 433 official entries to the Stage Awards alone, and what has stood out to me most is the incredible diversity of acts and comedic styles on today’s comedy circuit. It’s pretty exciting to see women from incredibly diverse communities and age groups in Britain and Ireland (and some beyond) feeling empowered enough to take to the stage. I LOVE THIS.”

But now’s not the time for a breather. We will be addressing the difficult task of deciding who will go through to the semi-finals, with help from our audience votes and industry judging panels. We will be announcing who the semi-finalists are on Wednesday 10th July so keep an eye out to find out who is through!

If you want to see some of the best new female talent on the comedy circuit you can book your tickets to the semi-finals now!

Greater Manchester Fringe, Frog and Bucket on Wednesday 24th July – 7.30 – 10pm

Brighton, Komedia on Saturday 27th July – 8.00 – 10pm

Camden Fringe London, Dingwalls on Wednesday 31st July – 7.30 – 10pm

Edinburgh Fringe, Assembly George Square, Studio One on Saturday 24th August – 2.05 – 3.05pm

We want to thank everyone who took part, from the performers to the venues to the audiences to the judges. We have been amazed by the fantastic comedy we’ve seen and wonderful supportiveness we have witnessed among all the acts. We can’t wait to see what the semi-finals bring and who will be through to our Grand Final on Thursday 19th September at Bloomsbury Theatre!
