Funny Women

It’s on!  The final countdown for the 2019 Funny Women Awards is upon us! Registration opens on Monday 8th April.

Once again, we are launching the platform that has empowered hundreds of women in comedy as part of our mission to bring more female performers, writers, content developers, producers and filmmakers into the industry. Now in their 16th year, the Funny Women Awards are the ultimate showcase of new female comedy talent and that’s something to celebrate!

This year we’re shaking up our Stage Award submissions; asking you to submit a five-minute YouTube clip of your stand up. Don’t worry about video quality, we’re not judging your production skills (or the state of your bedroom…), just your comedy, and the women who make us laugh hardest will be invited to perform their sets at one of our live heats across the UK in May or June, dates announced soon.

You’ve got until 30th April to get those videos to us so there’s still plenty of time to write that set, practice it in front of the mirror and film you performing at a gig or hide that pile of dirty washing you don’t want in shot!

Over the years we’ve seen some truly fantastic talent come through the Awards, and when alumna Viv Groskop describes them as a ‘rite of passage’ for women in comedy, she’s not wrong – past winners and finalists of our Stage Award include Zoe Lyons, Kerry Godliman, Bridget Christie, Sarah Millican, Susan Calman, Rachel Parris, Katherine Ryan, Sara Pascoe, London Hughes, Jayde Adams, Sindhu Vee, Desiree Burch and many more.  Our current title holder is Thanyia Moore, pictured here.

The Comedy Shorts and Comedy Writing Awards are there for brilliant filmmakers and scriptwriters to shine, and the Best Show Award winner is judged by public vote. So, if you want us – and them – to see your comedy, be it on stage, script or screen, check out the entry and nomination process.

We had a record number of entries for our last Awards in 2017 and we’d love to smash that in 2019. So get those videos into us for the Stage Award – you’ve got until 30th April to get your best stuff together.

Need a bit of inspiration? Why not check out our recent Alumni interviews with Catherine Bohart, Harriet Braine, Megan Shandley, Sophie Duker, Rosie Jones and Viv Groskop and take a look all the the hilarious ladies who’ve made Funny Women Awards finals over the past 16 years here!
